A Book Celebrating Patriotism

Chronicling the many faces of the WWII effort, these contemporary black-and-white portraits of the longest surviving veterans remind us that the war comprised a collection of Americans from all walks of life.

Appealing to the families of soldiers, academics, history buffs, and veterans of other wars, this collection is a testament to the spirit of patriotism and diversity of a collective American effort.

Richard Bell The Author

A lifelong photojournalist and commercial photographer, Richard Bell started his career at Kent State University with a degree in Journalism. After witnessing the shootings at Kent, Richard switched his major from Biology to Journalism. Jobs at two large metropolitan daily papers followed: The St. Petersburg Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer. At the Inquirer Richard moved from Staff Photojournalist to Photo Editor where he was awarded the ‘Newspaper photo editor of the year’ award from ’Pictures of the year’ competition (POY).

Leaving the newspaper business Richard started his own commercial photography business, ‘The Bing Group’, which produced print advertising for business uses. Concurrently he was a Senior Lecturer at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, teaching documentary photography. Richard is currently working on fine art and book projects at his studio in Medford, NJ.

Perfect Black and White Imagery...

Richard has taken the portrait art to a new high to showcase a beautiful collection of true American heroes. Presented as perfect black and white imagery, The Last Veterans is a work of art. Humble and honest, these first-person accounts from the major World War II theaters are now forever preserved.

- Larry C. Price, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and filmmaker.

The Last Living Veterans...

The Last Veterans of WWII by Richard Bell is an unforgettable farewell to these last living veterans of World War II. Their stories--in their own words--are as stark and unforgettable as the haunting black and white photographs. This book will stay in your memory long after you finish it...and you'll find yourself going back to it over and over again.

Highest Medals...

"You are a great photographer. I hope your book sells a million copies. I doubt if any other vet will have a photo showing highest medals from Germany as well as France and the Harvard law school.”

- Benjamin Ferencz, Chief Prosecutor, Nuremberg War Trials
